Privacy Policy

Effective date: 22 October 2026

Privacy at a glance

  • No account. You never sign up, and we never know who you are.
  • We collect no data from the app. No analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and nothing is sold.
  • Your journal stays on your iPhone or iPad. Speech recognition, tagging and analysis all run on the device. Nothing you record or write is sent to us or to any AI service.
  • iCloud sync is optional. If you turn it on, your journal is encrypted on your iPhone or iPad before it goes to your own iCloud account. Neither we nor Apple can read it.
  • Our website keeps only what any website host needs to run, plus anything you choose to send us by email.

Who we are and what this policy covers

Hansei is made by Kern Aerospace, LLC (“we,” “us”). This policy covers the Hansei app for iPhone or iPad and our website at hansei-app.com. It explains what information exists, where it lives, and who can see it.

Information the app does not collect

We do not operate any server that receives information from the Hansei app. We never receive your entries, recordings or transcripts; the people, places, projects and ideas Hansei tags in your entries; your insights, analyses or conversations with the analyst; your priorities, Analyst Lens or prompt cards; or your location, contacts or any identifier for you or your device. Hansei contains no analytics, advertising or tracking software, and we do not sell or share personal information. Hansei’s App Store privacy label reads “Data Not Collected.”

What stays on your iPhone or iPad

Everything you create in Hansei is stored on your iPhone or iPad, in Hansei’s private storage. That includes your entries, the tags and connections Hansei finds, your insights and conversations, your named places, your priorities and the analyst’s suggestions for them, your Analyst Lens, and your prompt cards. Recordings are never saved — Hansei listens only while you record, turns speech into text on the device, and discards the audio. Your journal is encrypted by iOS whenever your iPhone or iPad has been restarted and not yet unlocked. Face or Touch ID or your passcode is required to open Hansei. Entries recorded from the Lock Screen are sealed until you next unlock. Text you share in from Mail, Messages or other apps is saved as an entry, marked as someone else’s words.

Permissions

Hansei asks for the following permissions, each of which you can change in iPhone or iPad Settings > Hansei: Microphone (recording entries), Speech Recognition (turning speech into text, on the device), Location (recording where an entry was made, and optional prompts when you arrive at or leave a place you’ve named), Notifications (optional reminders and results), and Face or Touch ID (locking Hansei).

When Hansei uses the internet

Recording, transcription, tagging and analysis all work without a connection. Hansei goes online only in these cases, none of which involve us, and none of which send your journal entries: downloading the private analyst (once, about 2.3 GB) from Hugging Face, which hosts the model’s files; showing maps via Apple Maps; naming places via Apple’s place-lookup service, which receives an entry’s coordinates without its text; and optional iCloud sync to your own iCloud account. Apple handles maps and place names under Apple’s Privacy Policy, and Hugging Face handles the download under its privacy policy. To stop place-name lookups, turn on Strict Privacy in Hansei’s settings.

Optional iCloud sync

iCloud sync is off unless you turn it on. When it’s on, your journal is stored in the private area of your own iCloud account — not in any account of ours — so you can restore it or use it on another iPhone or iPad. Each item is encrypted on your iPhone or iPad before upload. Apple stores only sealed data, and we have no access to your iCloud account at all. Without a passphrase, the encryption key is kept in your iCloud Keychain, which Apple encrypts end to end. With a passphrase, the key is removed from iCloud Keychain and locked with your passphrase; a new iPhone or iPad then needs your passphrase or the one-time recovery key Hansei gives you. If you lose both, your iCloud copy cannot be opened by anyone, including us. Turning sync off lets you keep or delete the iCloud copy. You can also delete it in iPhone or iPad Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Manage Storage.

Purchases and subscriptions

Subscriptions and free trials are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never receive your name, email, Apple Account or payment details. Hansei checks your subscription status with Apple on your iPhone or iPad. Apple gives us sales reports that do not identify you.

Crash reports and diagnostics

If you choose to share analytics with app developers in iPhone or iPad Settings, Apple may send us crash reports and usage statistics for Hansei. Apple collects these, not Hansei, and they do not identify you. Hansei does not add your journal to them. We use them only to fix problems. To stop sharing, turn off Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements > Share With App Developers.

Our website and contacting us

Our website is hosted by GoDaddy. Like any web host, it records standard server logs — such as IP address, browser type and pages visited — to deliver and secure the site. We do not use analytics, advertising cookies or tracking on the website. If you email us or use a contact form, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to write. We use it only to reply, keep it for up to two years, and share it only with our email provider or when the law requires.

Children

Hansei is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 where local law sets a higher age), and we do not knowingly collect information from them. The app collects no information from anyone.

Your choices and rights

Because your journal lives on your devices, you control it directly. Delete entries in Hansei — deleted entries wait in Recently Deleted for 30 days, or until you delete them there. Delete everything on your iPhone or iPad by deleting the Hansei app; if you used iCloud sync, delete the iCloud copy too. Change permissions at any time in iPhone or iPad Settings > Hansei. Stop place-name lookups with Strict Privacy in Hansei’s settings. For information we do hold — which is only what you send us by email or through our website — you can ask us to see, correct or delete it. Depending on where you live (for example, the European Union, the United Kingdom or California), you may have further rights, which we will honor. We do not sell or share personal information as defined by California law.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will post the new version here with a new effective date, and note significant changes in the app’s release notes.
